Toilet Paper Roll Flowers

This craft was so easy and fun to do with the kids. I failed to take pictures of the steps, but it is very easy. We have plans to make more, so I will make sure to take pictures of each step.

Supplies Needed:
5 used toilet paper rolls (you can also use paper towel rolls)
2 wire coat hangers
acrylic paints (your favorite colors)
florist tape
embellishments (I used some stones that I had from an old jewelry project)
wire cutters
quick dry Tacky Glue
clothes pins

First cut your toilet paper rolls into thirds.

Next, paint these pieces your favorite "flower" colors. Make sure to paint the inside too. We liked putting different colors on the inside. Each flower can be made using either 4 or 5 "petals", so be sure and paint matching "petals" for each flower.  You will be ready for the next step once these dry.

Next, while the petals are drying, use your wire cutters to cut three long pieces and two shorter pieces of wire from your coat hangers. Hold them together with the tallest in the center and wrap the florist tape tightly around what will be the "stem" starting from the bottom. When you get about half way up, bend one of the shorter "stems" out to the right. Continue the florist tape for about half an inch and bend the other short "stem" out to the left. Again continue to wrap the florist tape until you get to the top. Now go back and wrap the shorter "stems" starting a the center. I found that wrapping the florist tape around the top and bottom of the side "stem" and them back around the main "stem" helped to hold it in place. Now you are ready to put your flowers together.

Next, now that your flower "petals" are dry you can start to put them together. Arrange the each flower in the pattern you like, you can flatten them a little if you want to use five "petals" on your flower. Now that you have the design that you like, add some quick dry Tacky Glue where the petals meet. I found that it is easer to do this one at a time and go around in a circle. Once they are glued together, use your clothes pins to hold them together tightly while they dry. You can add any stones or embellishments to the center at this time. Now just let it dry.

Once the flowers are dry, decide where you want the bottom of your flower to be. Add some Tacky Glue between two of the lower petals and insert the top of the "stem". Do the same for the other stems. I used clothes pins to hold the flowers on the stems as they dried.

Now that everything is dry, take your clothes pins off and you have a great flowers to hang on the wall.

** As an option you can cut a very thin piece of the toilet paper roll to make a leaf for the lower part of the "stem". We just painted our green and use Tacky Glue and a clothes pin to hold it in place while it dried.
